Arizona Grocery Companies, Union Reach Tentative Agreement

Joint Statement From Frys, Safeway and the United Food and Commercial Workers Union

PHOENIX, June 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Frys (a Kroger company) and Safeway have reached a tentative agreement with the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 99. The companies and Local 99 have been bargaining since last fall, and operating under a temporary contract extension since last October

The contract settlement must be ratified by UFCW members at votes scheduled to begin on June 23. Specific terms of the agreement were not immediately available.

The UFCW has agreed to fully recommend ratification of the contract to its membership. The companies anticipate that the contract will be approved by the majority of employees.

The companies and the unions both indicated they were pleased to have an agreement. The tentative accord impacts approximately 14,000 food clerks in Arizona.
