Dave Riggs, Carol Sanders and Jerry Wyatt Retire
Dave Riggs, Area Coordinator, Jerry Wyatt, Pension Fund Administrator, and relative Local 227 newcomer Carol Sanders all retired January 1st this year.
Dave Riggs had worked at Kroger as a head dairy clerk Head Dairy Clerk from August 1963 until joining Local 227 staff in 1984.. Dave retuned to Kroger in 1990 and again joined Local 227’s staff in 1995. Dave served early in his career as an organizer and servicing representative. He returned and was assigned to service the Paducah area where he lived for 16 months. In his last assignment, he was the Area Director for Louisville. Dave will be missed his contributions to the membership many.
Dave plans to stay home and enjoy his Grand Children.
Jerry has served the members of Local 227 since 1990. His career at Kroger spanned 27 years (1963-1990) as a Meat Cutter. Jerry was a servicing representative from 1990 until 1995 when he was asked to help with the Pension department and did a great job. Jerry has counseled hundreds of new retirees. He made sure they got their pension check and that it was right. Now it’s his turn.
Jerry will work part-time and train his replacement for several months.
Carol Sanders came to UFCW via the Chemical Workers Union when they merged in 1996. Carol had worked for them 7 years, before that she was an officer in her local union (ICEW 761) at the old Indiana Army Ammunition Plant. Carol came to work for Local 227 in 2000 where she was a servicing representative in Paducah following Dave Riggs. In 2002, she took on the assignment as Special Assistant to the President.
Carol plans to work part-time for Local 227 and spend time with her family.
We wish all of them the best. The contributions that they have made to working people and the Labor Movement are too numerous to count. On behalf of those workers, we say thank you for a job well done.
